About Heelers...
Farm Pups personal opinion regarding Blue/Red Heelers is that we ABSOLUTELY love them! That may explain why there’s so many of them running around here. Why do we love them? They are hard working independent dogs whose loyalty can not be matched. When there is a job to do, these dogs don’t give up, get scared, and run for cover. They are tough in nature and have a stubborn streak that with proper training can work to the handlers’ advantage.
Why do we think some people don’t get along with this breed? Because they haven’t done enough research before they made an impulse decision. These ARE NOT HOUSE DOGS that can stay cooped up in an apartment lifestyle full time. These are very active dogs that need constant stimulation. When they do not receive enough stimulation is when the mischievous side will turn up and they will find things to entertain themselves with. If you have acreage for them to run, work on a farm, participate in dog agility or obedience trials, or live a very active lifestyle and want a dog to accompany you then the Blue Heeler should be a suitable match for you.
Excerpt from blueheelers.net :
Not only meant to be working dogs, they are also ideal family pets. They are very affectionate to their "masters" and like to have close attachment with them. They are very bold and like to challenge people around them by trying to break the rules and once in a while challenge your ability to make him follow. They love to chew anything that they see including toys and furniture. You must be very serious in teaching him what is acceptable and what is not. What is so good about ACD pets is that you can expect them to be interested in your welfare and safety at all times.
